College football season is fast approaching…can you believe it’s already mid-August? One of the benefits of sweating through Houston summers is being rewarded with college football at the end!! One of our most exciting local teams is University of Houston. Located just south of downtown, University of Houston has made some exciting changes and expansions over the past several years, including an upgraded football stadium, TDECU Stadium. The Houston Cougars, an ever changing and dynamic team, are ready to suit up for the 2017 season. Nobody can deny that last season had its ups and downs, from defeating OU in the season opener at NRG Stadium, to being demolished at the Las Vegas Bowl against San Diego State and losing our amazing coach, Tom Herman, to fellow Texas team UT. Despite the disappointing end to 2016, we’re ready to kick off 2017 in style, playing on the road at UTSA in San Antonio. High hopes are riding on the shoulders of our new head coach, Major Applewhite. Being signed in for the 2015 and 2016 seasons as OC and Quarterbacks coach, Applewhite knows the style and personality of the Houston Cougars already. Applewhite admits he will have a less flashy approach to his coaching style, compared to Tom Herman’s grill wearing, talk show host feuding persona. Admittingly we will have a less high profile start to the season, playing lesser known UTSA vs. OU. However a quieter start may be what the new Cougars need to kick the season off. Houston has proven they can come from behind to really shine and personally, I can’t wait to see what the season holds in store for us!
